Airports in and Around San Francisco, CA
San Francisco International Airport (SFO, KSFO) - is located 13 miles south of downtown San Francisco and is the largest airport in the Bay area. As noted earlier, there are several San Francisco sights worth seeing in the airport itself, including an aviation museum and library. Private aviation services are provided by one fixed base operator (FBO), Signature Flight Support.
Oakland International Airport (OAK, KOAK), also called Metropolitan Oakland International Airport - is found 4 miles south of the central business district of Oakland, and about 21 miles southeast of downtown San Francisco by car. Two FBOs serve the fairly large amount of private and corporate aviation that flies through OAK: Business Jet Center Oakland and KaiserAir, Inc.
Hayward Executive Airport (HWD, KHWD) - is approximately 26 miles southeast around the Bay, by car, from the central business district of San Francisco. Two FBOs are located here: Volo Aviation and Atlantic Aviation.
Further south, in San Jose, is Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC, KSJC) - located 2 miles northwest of downtown San Jose, and about 46 miles southeast from San Francisco. Atlantic Aviation also has a location here, with one other FBO, AvBase.
Reid-Hillview Airport of Santa Clara County (RHV, KRHV) - is a reliever airport for SJC, found in east San Jose, around 53 miles southeast of downtown San Francisco. One FBO, Nice Air, provides services for general aviation.
Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport (STS, KSTS) - is 6 miles northwest of downtown Santa Rosa and 63 miles north of San Francisco. The two local FBOs are Sonoma Jet Center and Santa Rosa Jet Center KaiserAir.
Marin County Airport (DVO, KDVO), or Gnoss Field - is located 2 miles northeast of Novato, CA, and about 31 miles north of San Francisco. The airport serves as its own FBO while several local businesses provide partial FBO services.
Far to the west, you can fly through Modesto City-County Airport (MOD, KMOD), also called Harry Sham Field - is located 2 miles southeast of the central business district of Modesto and about 95 miles west of downtown San Francisco. SkyTrek Aviation is the single FBO available here.
