Aspen, CO - City Guide

Ski or snowboard at Aspen Mountain or any of the other three ski areas in the valley—Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, or Buttermilk—all of which are only 12 miles away from town. With the White River National Forest and other designated wilderness areas around Aspen, there are plenty of places to hike, bike, raft, dogsled, flyfish, and more. The city also has several health clubs and spas to help you rejuvenate and relax after a busy day of adventuring.
Aspen proudly boasts “big city” culture in a small town fashion with many art, music, and dance performances and sights. Every summer the town hosts the classical Aspen Music Festival. Aspen’s local airport is the Aspen Pitkin County Airport (ASE, KASE), also known as Sardy Field, which is about three miles northwest from the downtown area. The airport is so close to the slopes, it boasts that you can “be skiing within minutes of your arrival.” One fixed base operator is available outside the main terminal building to expedite transportation and services for general aviation travelers. Atlantic Aviation offers a café, valet service, and a conference room in addition to standard amenities. The airport also has an onsite limousine service—Snow Limousine.
Summers in Aspen are quite mild, with temperatures typically in the 60s. July is the warmest month of the year, having an average maximum temperature of 77.2 degrees Fahrenheit. The area has very cold winters ranging in the 20s, while the coldest month—January—has an average minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees. Aspen’s annual average precipitation is 23.26 inches. The average rainfall of the wettest month, March, is 2.74 inches.
