Compact Light Jets, also referred to as Very Light Jets (VLJs), are small light aircraft that typically hold a small group of 4 or 5 passengers comfortably. They have been described as the “sports cars of aviation.” These jets are best employed for short flights of 300 to 500 miles – though they can actually travel as far as 1600 miles – and 40 to 80 minutes' duration.
The compact light jets are a fairly new category of aircraft, and thus are equipped with the very latest in jet engine technology which delivers the speed, quality, and fuel efficiency that allow for a more cost effective means of private jet travel. |

VLJs are defined by the NBAA as single-pilot jets that weigh 10,000 pounds or less. These aircraft generally have two engines, 4 to 6 passenger seats, automated cockpits, and cost half as much as the most inexpensive business jet now in service. Such small jets can land on much shorter runways than most other business aircraft, enabling them to reach many more of the small, underused airports in the United States. Because of their size, baggage capacity and extra amenities may be limited on such aircraft. However, they are still very comfortable and luxurious – one even has an interior by BMW – and makes a sensible choice for short, quick flights. |
